Jetking to open 20 new franchises across India

New Delhi, Apr 25 (UNI) Aiming to bring education to every door step, Jetking Infotrain Ltd is all set to open 20 new franchises in the country this year.

The institute, that trains youth in computer hardware and networking, has over 135 training centers at present and claims to have placed about four lakh technical and non-technical students in various companies.

''The new centres will be primarily focused in eastern and southern part of the country. The locations will include Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh in south, along with the north-eastern states,'' Urvashi Bharwani, Vice-president, Sales and
Marketing, Jetking Infotrain Ltd, told UNI today.

The present centres include more than 10 in Delhi and NCR wherein students from all over the country such as Rewari, Sri Ganganagar, Bijnor, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Haldwani and Delhi and NCR study.

Talking about the teaching methodology used at the centres, Ms Bharwani stated that building confidence along with providing right skills to the students remained their priority.

''The students are trained by certified trainers who have already been trained by our technical team. Efforts remain constant to upgrade their knowledge according to the industry needs so as to motivate them in performing well,'' she said.

The institute uses its unique Smartlab Plus teaching methodology that focuses on personality development, English-speaking, Yoga, sixty per cent practical, CBT, field visits and quizzes.

''Through this methodology, we break the journey of the student into small interesting steps maintaining his or her interest,'' Ms Bharwani said.

The institute has launched a new course this year named Jetking Certified Hardware and Networking Engineer (JCHNE). It is a year long course wherein the classes are held for two hours daily.

The institute also organises placement weeks in every city annually. The last one was held on April 6 wherein more than 35 students got on the spot job offers and around 260 students were short-listed at the fair, Ms Bharwani claimed.

She added that 950 students (under-graduates and graduates) from 19 different centers and representatives of 13 IT companies had participated in the event.

Maiden 'Doha Debates' in India to discuss treatment given to Muslims

New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) Aiming to provide a free speech forum to Indian students to speak out their mind on how Muslims are treated in the country, the 'Doha Debates' are holding a session in the national capital on February 15.

This will be the first ever discussion held in Asia by the forum, that claims to champion free speech on controversial issues.

Spotlighting India's Muslim minority, the motion ''The House believes Muslims are not getting a fair deal in India'', will be debated at the St Stephen's College of the Delhi University by eminent Indian personalities from different fields.

''Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology Sachin Pilot and distinguished journalist M J Akbar will be speaking against the motion while Seema Mustafa, who has authored a number of books on Indian politics, and civil rights
activist Teesta Setalvad will be debating for the motion,'' Debates' Chairman Tim Sebastian informed.

He informed that St Stephen's is the first Asian educational institution to invite the Debates, which is hosted and funded by the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development.

''In all our debates held till now, around 45 in number, students have formed two-third of the audience. In this one too, 300 students from different Indian universities are likely to participate,'' Mr Sebastian told UNI.

He added that 10 students from Doha, the capital city of the state of Qatar, would also be joining in.

On a question about his choice of topic, he said the subject had provoked considerable controversy within the country and a passionate debate was much needed for clarity.

''How does a democracy of the size of India deals with its Muslim minority and are their rights effectively safeguarded? Who is to blame if they under-perform? What lessons can the rest of the world draw from India's experience? Such questions are likely to be answered in the debate,'' Mr Sebastian noted.

Vijay Goel slams SRK; suggests him to concentrate on acting

New Delhi, Feb 12 (UNI) Unlike other BJP leaders, party's All India General Secretary Vijay Goel today criticised Shah Rukh Khan for getting involved in the ongoing controversy surrounding 'My Name Is Khan' and suggested that being an actor, Khan should concentrate on his acting.

''I feel that being a politician, if I am expected to not get involved in the matters of entertainment industry, same should be understood by other professionals also,'' Mr Goel said.

Speaking on the reason that had led to the Khan-Shiv Sena controversy, the BJP leader quipped, ''When he has so much love for the neighbouring country's players, why did not he take them in his IPL team.''

The actor is the co-owner of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) twenty20 cricket tournament which does not have any player from the Pakistan cricket team.

However, the former Union Minister did not shy away from giving his opinion on the movie that hit theatres across the country today and said, ''The name of the movie is also not appropriate according to Indian mindset.''

''There was no need to mention one's religion in the title of the movie,'' he asserted.

Recalling the incident at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey in August last year where the actor was allegedly detained by US immigration officials because his name came up on a computer alert list, Mr Goel again slammed the 'Bollywood Badshah'.

''It has now become a practice of every Muslim to level such criticism,'' he claimed.

The actor had gone to the US to promote ''My Name is Khan''.

Meanwhile, party's newly-elected president Nitin Gadkari today chose to play safe and kept mum on the issue and said, ''Whatever had to be said has already been said by our party spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad and whatever he has said is the stand of the party.''

Mr Shankar had reportedly said yesterday his party did not approve of the threats by the Sena to stop the release of the Shahrukh Khan-starrer movie.

Victim of ragging mostly rags a junior: HC Justice Gambhir

New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) Terming ragging a ''venomous practice'', Justice Kailash Gambhir of the Delhi High Court noted that a person who ragged a junior must have been a victim of ragging himself.

''When a person gets ragged, its germs are sown inside him which bounce back when he becomes a senior,'' Justice Gambhir said and added that ragging was violation of human rights that distorted mental balance of the victim to an unimaginable extent.

He was speaking on a launch ceremony of a book entitled ''Ragging - The Red Alert'' held here recently.

He added that ragging was no more a means of interaction but more of teasing and humiliating juniors that distorted the balance of an individual.

Judge of the Delhi Consumer Court Dr Premlata, who was also present on the occasion, asserted that there was a need to go to the root cause of the problem.

''Today's youth is aggressive. They get sadistic pleasure in teasing somebody. We have to be concerned about the emergence of this behaviour,'' she said.

Talking about his inspiration to right the book, its author Gulshan Naveen said the sad demise of Aman Satya Kachroo, who died in March last year due to intense ragging by his seniors in Himachal Pradesh, made him to raise his voice against the evil.

''The character of ragging is becoming downright criminal. Today's raggers are learning from various sources and beginning to indulge in atrocities of the kind inflicted on prisoners confined in Guantanamo Bay!,'' Mr Naveen said.

The country has not been dealing with a simple law-and-order problem but a cancer that was degrading the society, he added.

Father of Aman and head of an NGO, Aman Movement, established to work towards eradication of ragging, Dr Rajendra Kachroo also attended the function.

The book gives various circulars of UGC, AICTE as also deep intervention of courts, including the Supreme Court of India. It refers to the possibility of an increase of virulent events in technology education institutions and suggests that present college education has a deficiency in liberal education.

''Educational institutes need to move in a direction to provide more of practical knowledge to students instead of delivering lectures on morality and good behaviour,'' the book mentions.
